Simple Dice High Resolution Application Icon Done

Continuing the pattern of updating all of my Android applications to include the new, mandatory high-resolution application icons, I’ve been working on a new logo for my dice rolling application, Simple Dice. After messing around with it for a while, I finally managed to come up with something that looks great, and is unique when compared to my other high resolution application icons. This new icon makes use of the “What Do We Do All Day” font by Heather Taylor (no relation to me). I used a spiral background to visually symbolize the movement of rolling the dice, and layered a few copies of the dice image on top of each other in order to create an almost three dimensional look and feel, as well as a subtle glow behind the text and the die itself. I will be using this new high resolution icon for both the free version and the $0.99 donation (advertisement-free) version of Simple Dice in the Android market.

New “ShareThis” Feature!

I’ve added a new feature to all posts on my site called “ShareThis”. You can now choose to share posts with friends on tons of different social networks and blogs, including Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon, Blogger, and Google Buzz. You’ve probably seen these buttons on, like, every single blog ever written already, and I’m proud to announce that they’re now on my site as well. To try it now, simply click one of the share icons at the bottom of this post. I’m hoping that these share buttons will bring even more visitors to my site. Not only that, but these buttons are also a really fun feature that lets you share posts that you find interesting with your friends. Check it out! The default selection of networks listed under the posts is subject to change, as I may add or remove preset networks based on recommendations from visitors, as well as my own intuition.

Linking Old Posts to the New Site

As part of the process of transitioning to the new website, I’m adding a link to every post on my old website, linking to the new website. This will ensure that visitors notice that my site has been moved, and helpfully bring all of the visitors who continue to visit my old site to the new site, as well as increasing the page ranking of my site in all of the major search engines such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo. This process should be completed within the next few days.

Currency Converter High Resolution Application Icon Done

If you haven’t noticed the trend, I’ve been working on creating high resolution 512 x 512 icons for my Android applications, which is now mandatory in the Android market. This icon in particular went through quite a few revisions before I was finally satisfied with the result, and I must say, it turned out a lot better than I originally thought it would, especially considering the fact that I originally created the icon at a resolution of 165 x 165 (including the space around the actual icon). Considering how much scaling, bluring, anti-aliasing, etc. I had to do in order to get this to look nice, I’m rather satisfied with the end result:

Let me know what you think. Also, after compression by the Android market, the icon still looks pretty good, but I really wish they would leave the original icons alone, or use lossless compression.
